Elevation

We’ve made it to MT for the month of August! August is a no-mans-land for school and camp, so rather than be home with a 3.5 year old while undergoing chemo, we thought we’d join Rory’s parents for the month at their home here in Big Sky. Luckily the community where we are has daycare for Declan and several outdoor camps for Lochlan, plus the most involved grandparents ever – we’re so incredibly lucky.

Tomorrow will be a week since my second A/C treatment and I’m definitely feeling the effects more this round than last. I’m not sure if its an elevation thing or the cumulative effects of chemo are starting to take hold. The house is at 8,200 ft elevation, which is no joke. I’m trying to drink over 100oz of water a day, and after a few days of acclimation, am finally sleeping well. Energy hasn’t been my issue though – I was able to go through my PT exercises on Monday and a 60 minute pilates class on Tuesday. My issue is my stomach. I’m not necessarily nauseous, but more a general upset stomach all the time. The only thing that seems to help it is eating. Unfortunately, it’s not realistic to eat all the time (though I’m down to try).

I’ve been taking my nausea meds more frequently than usual in an attempt to get this in check, but I cannot help but wonder if maybe they’re contributing to it? It’s hard because my doctors tell me to stay ahead of the nausea with the meds – I’ve experienced the chemo induced nausea and it’s no joke, so I’ve been taking them pretty frequently in an attempt to curb whatever this stomach issue is. Perhaps they’re doing more harm than good. Now that I’m a week out from my last chemo sesh, I’m going to see if I can space them out more. It could also be a factor of being away from home and my usual routine/eating habits. Hopefully it will normalize over time.

Meghan – being at elevation could be impacting your nausea. You are a rock star. Thank you for sharing.
